Quick answer: VCA Search helps an operator narrow recorded material by supported events or attributes, then review the video behind each result. Choose it against the exact recorder, event source and firmware. A search result is a lead to review, and an empty result does not prove that nothing happened.

Start with the incident question
Ask which entrance, yard or aisle matters, the approximate time and what the customer needs to establish. “Find a delivery at the rear gate on Tuesday evening” is a better starting point than selecting every channel for a month.
Separate event detection, captured images, searchable metadata and identity matching. They are different functions. A recorder listing Face Search does not establish that every camera, stream or software interface can provide the required data, nor that identity matching is approved for the site.
The AI NVR guide explains where analytics may run. Confirm the event source and supported combination instead of treating the search list as a universal camera feature.
Check the catalog row, then the actual installation
| Recorder | Catalog search list |
|---|---|
| CS-N105 P4H-AI; CS-N110 P8H-AI; CS-N220 P16H-AI | Early-warning, Behavior, Safety Helmet, Thermographic, Duty, Electric Bicycle, Face (by face attributes) and Smart Motion Detection searches. |
| CS-N440 M-AI | Heatmap, Early-warning, Behavior, Thermographic, Duty, Electric Bicycle, Face and Safety Helmet searches. |
| CS-N440 P16-H-AI — identifier confirmation required | The preceding 40-channel list plus License Plate Search Support. The family index spells the SKU CS-N440 P16H-AI; confirm the orderable identifier. |
| CS-N880 H-AI | Heatmap, Early-warning, Behavior, License Plate, Safety Helmet, Thermographic, Duty, Electric Bicycle and Face searches. |
These are catalog function labels, not processing-channel counts or promises about accuracy. Confirm search availability, source devices, required configuration, stream settings, simultaneous functions and the interface used for this project. Do not transfer a function between models because their housings look alike.
For the 40-channel PoE model, resolve the catalog identifier difference in writing before ordering or issuing a submittal. Use the current SKU/revision specification, rather than silently treating both spellings as interchangeable.
Make search part of commissioning
- Confirm that the required event/search type is supported for the recorder, cameras and versions.
- Establish which rules, metadata or indexing must be active, and when. Do not promise historical reprocessing unless the actual system supports it.
- Set and verify the required time zone, daylight-saving behavior and approved time source.
- Test representative events at each important view, including day/night conditions where relevant.
- Confirm recording retention and the operator’s playback/export permissions.
- Run the actual search, open its results and test export before handover.
Record the channels and functions tested, missed events, nuisance events and any open limits. The recorder time guide and permissions guide cover two common dependencies.
Find, review and preserve the relevant clip
- Record the question and the approximate local time, including any known clock discrepancy.
- Select the supported search type, relevant channels and a sensible time window.
- Apply only filters actually offered and validated for the installation.
- Open candidate results and watch enough footage before and after the event to understand context.
- Cross-check other relevant views and ordinary playback when needed.
- Preserve and export the agreed interval through the approved workflow.
Do not shorten a clip merely to make a message attachment fit if doing so removes important context. Follow the customer’s evidence process and test that the recipient can open the export. The evidence export guide includes a practical record of who exported and received the material.
When the result list is empty
Check time, channel selection, retention, permissions and the event source. Confirm that recording exists for the interval. Then check whether the required rule and metadata were present and whether the exact search is supported on this version.
Use ordinary playback as appropriate. Do not enable a rule today and assume it will index yesterday’s footage, or assert that no system can ever reprocess historical video. That capability needs explicit confirmation. Preserve relevant footage before routine overwrite removes it.
Treat vehicle events and plate search separately
A tripwire event involving a vehicle is different from a readable plate record. The catalog’s larger AI by NVR lists describe Video Structuralization as excluding vehicle detection; do not promise vehicle-attribute filtering from that label.
License Plate Search is printed for CS-N880 H-AI, and License Plate Search Support for the 40-channel PoE model noted above. These labels do not turn an ordinary wide-angle camera into a suitable plate-capture camera. Confirm the capture device, lens, angle, speed, lighting, event integration and search workflow against the site.
The older CSP-I4LQ I-LPR-8-32mm is retired from the active offering under current product guidance. Do not specify it as an available current project item; ask Anabon to review a supported alternative and its differences.
Set a realistic customer expectation
Demonstrate a known event, a missed/empty result and the manual-playback fallback. Explain what was tested and who may search/export. Face-based functions require a separate privacy and project review before enabling them.
Use this wording: “Search can help us narrow the footage using the functions we commissioned. We still review the clip and its context, and use playback when the search does not answer the question.” Avoid a guaranteed same-day recovery, universal recognition or zero-miss claim.
FAQ
Can I search footage recorded before a rule was enabled?
Confirm the actual system’s metadata and historical-processing requirements. Do not promise it; ordinary playback may still be available.
Does a search hit establish identity?
No. Review the actual function, video, context and approved human-review process.
Does a plate-search menu prove good plate capture?
No. Capture and search require a confirmed, tested end-to-end design.
Review NVR options and send the required searches, exact devices and firmware to Anabon technical support before committing to a capability.
